Hotshot Competition
The Hotshot competition is an individual competition that can be performed to compete against one’s self or against other competitors. In the competition a player has one minute to make as many shots from various designated spots on the floor (as shown in the diagram below) that are worth different point amounts.
Here are the point values for shooting at each spot:
The red triangles (the closest spots to the hoop) are worth 1 point each BUT can only be used once each!
The blue circles (the second closest spots to the hoop) are worth two points each and are usually designated on the basketball court as the big blocks around the key.
The grey circles (at the elbows of the key) are worth 3 points each
The yellow circle (in the middle of the floor at the free throw line) is worth 4 points
The green circle (in the middle of the floor beyond the three point line) is worth 5 points
Variations: The following variations can be added to help beginners feel encouraged as they develop their shooting skills – 5 points can be awarded for simply attempting a shot at each of the spots; 10 points can be added for attempting and making a shot at each of the five spots; the 1 point shots do not have to be limited to one made shot each for less experienced players so that they can have more success making shots closer to the hoop.
